Our Target has a creepy skeleton thing on display which Lily calls "The scary monster." She saw it one day while at the store with Jacob and was afraid of it. Despite her fear she also has a fascination with it. Every time we would go back to the store she would ask to go see the scary monster and if I said no she would be really upset about it. The times I did take her to see it she would get so scared that she wouldn't even look at it and would ask to leave. This put me in a tricky situation. I didn't know if I should be taking her to see it because of the way she reacted. I was afraid she might start having nightmares or something but I decided to see if I could help her to understand that she didn't need to be afraid of it. If you touch it the eyes light up and it starts chomping it's teeth. I made a game of it and let it bite my fingers. She thought that was pretty funny. After spending a few minutes doing this every time we went to the store she finally warmed up to it. She now touches it herself and laughs at it. You can tell in the picture below that she is still just a tiny bit hesitant to be standing by it but all in all I think she does enjoy playing with it.

Our kids love the monsters at the stores too! They aren't scared of them instead they always ask if we can bring them home with us.
That's funny. We have that same skeleton, and Adi loves it. Emersyn is NOT fond of it, but we always end up going to see it too because of Adi. I guess it's good to let them adress their fears, and it seems like you did a good thing by playing with it.
Man, now I'm going to have nightmares tonight!
That is so funny...every time we go to Target now, Jack says, "Mom, I don't want to see that scary guy!" He is terrified of him!! I think he's scary too. If I was little, I would be freaked out. :)
