I Love DUG!

Kat and I finally watched UP. It was a tremendous film and rather funny, particularly because of DUG, that lovable dog. Some of my favorite lines were:
"I have just met you and I love you."

"I would be happy if you stopped."

"I do not like the collar of shame."

And best of all, "I was hiding under your porch because I love you."

If you'd like to see an interesting featurette about the guy who plays Dug (and Roz and Mr Ray) click here.

The Jesus Song

One of the 4 songs we have to sing to Lily every night is "The Jesus Song"(I'm trying to be like Jesus) It is kind of a long song for a kid to learn and I had no idea she even knew it until one night she just sang along with me and she knew every word. Jacob made a little video of her singing it but she knew he was recording so naturally she was a little shy. You can still see how sweet it is though.

For Grandma Crosby

One fall memory I have from my childhood is that whenever my mom and I would go on walks she would always go out of her way to walk through the dead fallen leaves because of the crunch sound it made. Lily also loves that sound. She calls it "walking through the trees."Here is a little video for Grandma.

FHE

We decided to carve pumpkins for FHE this week. Lily was soooooo excited to do it. After Jacob cut the top and pulled it out Lily was disgusted and wanted nothing to do with it.

Drawing the face
kissing while cleaning out the insides
Carving
The finished product. Lily wanted circle eyes, a triangle nose and square teeth. I did my best to pull it off. Jacobs is much better. Lily was also scared of the pumpkins after they were finished. She liked them much better with the lights on and no candles.
This video shows how Lily was grossed out and afraid. She is so funny.

Do A Little Dance....

Sometimes, you just GOTTA DANCE. Like they say on Singin in the Rain, you know? Anywho, Lily and I just have to get our dance on from time to time. She knows how to have fun dancing to all of Daddy's favorite bands: blink-182, Angels and Airwaves, All-American Rejects, and The Killers. As this video proves.

Democrats vs Republicans

Lovely message from our Great Unifier. The guy who is going to put an end to bipartisanship. Anywho, my favorite line here is after he praises the Democrats for thinking for themselves, he says, "I like that in ya, BUT ...." We all know what is supposed to come next. Not "we are this close." That doesn't make sense. What really follows the but is: "it's time to fall in line. Do as I say."

Hypocrisy.

She Is a Little Girl After All

The other night were invited to a friends house to chat with the missionaries and have dessert. While there, Lily and their little girl Ashlyn came downstairs all dressed up. Ashlyn is a major princess so she was showing Lily the ropes. Lily being new at the whole "Princess dress up thing" thought it would look nice to put a random purple sweatshirt around her neck and about 5,000 bracelets. She did look pretty dang cute if I don't say so myself.
Here is Ashlyn, the queen at princess play. She had a huge ruby ring on every finger. She is such a doll.

Today I was reading my Grandmothers book when Lily wanted to play makeup. She kept saying "Put the book down mommy."She has never been interested in makeup before so I was curious to see how she would do it. I was at a very intense moment in my book though and wanted another minute to get to a good stopping point. She then proceeded to play makeup with out me. She started wiping her face with a little wooden alphabet puzzle piece and was humming a tune. She said to me " Mom I'm just singing when I put on my makeup." She then continued to hum and I glanced over at her to watch and smile at her cuteness. When she looked over and saw me watching her she got embarrassed and said "Just read your book mommy. Just turn the page and read your book ok mommy?" At that moment I put the book down and went and got an old empty makeup case I wasn't using with a little mirror and a powdering pad to wipe her face with. We then played makeup till it was nap time.

The Scary Monster

Our Target has a creepy skeleton thing on display which Lily calls "The scary monster." She saw it one day while at the store with Jacob and was afraid of it. Despite her fear she also has a fascination with it. Every time we would go back to the store she would ask to go see the scary monster and if I said no she would be really upset about it. The times I did take her to see it she would get so scared that she wouldn't even look at it and would ask to leave. This put me in a tricky situation. I didn't know if I should be taking her to see it because of the way she reacted. I was afraid she might start having nightmares or something but I decided to see if I could help her to understand that she didn't need to be afraid of it. If you touch it the eyes light up and it starts chomping it's teeth. I made a game of it and let it bite my fingers. She thought that was pretty funny. After spending a few minutes doing this every time we went to the store she finally warmed up to it. She now touches it herself and laughs at it. You can tell in the picture below that she is still just a tiny bit hesitant to be standing by it but all in all I think she does enjoy playing with it.

The Real Deal

The video I recently posted of Jake trying to crawl was taken on Wednesday. On Thursday he started crawling for real and sitting up on his own. They grow and change so fast. It's amazing! I'm also trying to get a video of Lily bearing her Testimony because it's pretty darn cute but she gets so shy when the camera is on her. She always stares at me in silence before she can't take the embarrassment anymore and then walks away. Someday I'll get it. She uses a part to our old blender as a microphone.

So Big

I feel bad because I realized the other day that I haven't been recording Jake's milestones. With Lily being our first I was so excited about every single little thing she did and felt that it was worthy of recording. We have tons of little videos of her and not as many with Jake. I didn't even film his very first reaction to baby food. What kind of mother am I? I still get excited to see him develop as he should I just haven't thought to record it and that makes me sad. So here's to my little Jake who I think is doing rather well and I am so proud of him. Isn't he cute?Jake is 6 3/4 months old and weighs 17Ib. 3oz. He is a champion belly scooter. He can book it faster than i've ever seen if he sees the bathroom door is open. He is learning to crawl. He takes a few steps then scoots again. He is beating Lily by about a month in that category. He is also learning to pull himself up. He can almost climb on Lily's bed (which is just a mattress on the floor) He can almost sit up. He just uses one arm to support himself. He loves taking a bath and playing in Lily's room. He plays in there forever with out making a peep. It is so nice.

Here he is pulling himself up. These videos are kind of long so I will not be offended if you don't watch them. In fact I won't even know.

Crawling (sort of)

"Tender Mercies"

Today I had to go grocery shopping. Those of you who know me well know how much I hate doing this. I was trying to time it perfectly so that as soon as I was done it would be time to go get Jacob then he could help me carry the groceries in when we got home. It ended up taking a lot longer than planned (as usual.) I was carrying Jake in the baby bjorn, so naturally my back was breaking by the end because he's so heavy these days, and Lily was being her usual, "I DON"T WANT TO SIT IN THE CART" self. I had a lot to get and was trying hard not to forget anything so that I would NOT have to make this venture again for a while. Anyway, to make a long story longer: I'm driving to get Jacob when he calls and says he will be a few minutes longer, so I figured I could either get there early and listen to kids scream while waiting for him or I can stop at home and unload the groceries quickly and then go get him. I got home and left the kids in the car while I ran in and out of the house with bags. We live on the second floor so it was quite a workout for me. By the time I was finished I was stressed out again because now I was running late and Jacob would be waiting for me. I started backing out of the driveway when Lily said to me, "I went pee pee in my pants." I got out and checked her and she was soaked and her car seat was soaked. I ran her in the house and changed her as fast as I could. Jake was screaming by that point. I finally left to get Jacob. On the way I suddenly got an impression to turn on the radio. I ignored the feeling for a few seconds when it came again. I turned it on and to my wonder one of my most favorite songs was just starting. (Don't laugh, I listen to the christian rock station a lot and there is a song called "Savior, Please" and I love it.) Anyway so it is just starting and I am soooo happy because I always wait for this song to play and it hardly ever does and when I do catch it it is usually almost over. I started singing along and really paid attention to the words and when it got the the Savior keep saving me part it suddenly hit me that I really needed to hear this and that I know I was prompted to turn it on for that reason. Of course, I got very emotional and started to cry. It was a reminder to me that the Lord is aware of me and I felt his love so strong at that moment and that is something that I really needed also. I know it is kind of a cheesy situation but I am so grateful for it. You can check it out here.

Funny Video

Not entirely true. But darn close.

It all comes back to bite you

Lily is in the middle of that "getting after you" phase, where we're constantly having to say things like: "Lily, please don't scream."
"Lily, please stop picking your nose."
"Lily, when you cough, you need to cover your mouth."
"Lily, don't eat your boogers. That's disgusting."
"Lily, leave Jake alone."

Well, Lily is smart enough to realize that these rules should apply to everyone. Today I coughed, but pointed my face upward so I wouldn't be coughing on anyone. Lily immediately shouted, "Dad, you didn't cover your MOUTH!"
So, I had to fake another cough and make sure to cover up.

What am I going to do when she catches me picking my nose???
