BYU COUGARS!

Today was a great game for Cougar fans and yewts alike. Congrats to the yewts for making it a great game and mounting a strong comeback. Even more congrats to the Cougars for WINNING! Max Hall had a rough day, but he made the most important pass of the game .... in OVERTIME. However, the sweetest part of today's game wasn't the victory, it was the dozens of times that Lily ran up to me and shouted, "GO COUGARS!" After the game ended, we opened up the window and shouted and cheered for our neighbors. It was great to have a family member cheering on the team with me. Since this was one for the books, I'll post pictures and video of the Cougars in their sweet retro jerseys as they come. GooooooOOOOOOOOOooOOOOOOOOO Cougars!!!!
Update: As far as Max Hall's comments go, I understand the way he feels, having been antagonized by yewt fans a couple of times myself. His only experience with the rivalry is playing them in football, having his family "beered" by them, and a few other things too crude to mention on a blog. If Kat had been put through the things a few petty fans put Max's mother and wife through, I'd be pretty full of hate, too. Just remember he also ripped on the BYU fans who have no real loyalty-- who gripe at the team at the first scent of bad luck or bad play. If you think Max's comments are the worst thing you've ever heard, check out these two links from yewt players saying the SAME thing.
Or a word from a yewt on the behavior of the fans at the same game Hall was referring to last year: http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=445&sid=4886246
However, we're glad to know great, classy yewt fans. Becca and Ryan and Eric are the best!

Sunday Night Photos and Silly Videos

I was messing around with camera tonight, trying out some things as I learned them from the instruction manual. Now I will share them with you. Most are of Lily. I find it hilariously ironic how Kat tells Lily she needs to be my photo subject when I want to take pictures, but she turns away herself when I try to take pictures of her.

A few days ago we were messing around with the old webcam and decided to dedicate some silly accessories to some of our friends and family. You'll have to watch all 6-8 minutes to see if you made the list! If you're not on there, don't be offended. We probably still love you.

My First Try At Editing

So I'm a little disappointed because these pictures looked a lot different in the window I was editing them in. They don't quite look how I thought but oh well. This is my first attempt at editing photos. I have no artistic abilities whatsoever so really the only thing making these pictures look good is my beautiful daughter. These are the pictures Jacob took on Sunday. You can scroll down to his post to see what they used to look like before I messed with them.

This picture was really blurry but I loved it. I thought it was so pretty so I tried my best to get it in focus. The coloring is a little odd but everything else made it look way to blurry and washed out.

Her dress is a little long. It is actually a size 3T but I was afraid she would grow out of the hat by the time she grew in to the dress so I figured now was my chance to get some pics before it snowed.

This one is my all time favorite. Jacob seems to be a whole lot better with the camera than I am so far. Maybe I should be the one drilling teeth and he can stay home and play photographer with the kids.

Fall Photo Shoot

Even though we just sent out pictures of the kids, Lily wore her new dress that Kat bought just to match a hat I encouraged her to buy because it was a dollar. I hadn't played with the new camera for a while, so I decided to break it out a little before and after church. Here are the results. I don't want to brag or anything, but I think I take some pretty darn good pics. Having a beautiful subject helps.

Lily had her 2.5 year check up this week. She was sooooo excited to go to the Dr. as usual. She is now in the 10% for weight and the 17% for height. She can count to 12 and sing the ABC's along with many other songs. She can almost say her prayers by herself. Things she loves are: Her doll (sometimes I feel like I have 3 kids because of that thing), a snack (pretty much her whole day revolves around snacks), talking to her reflection "Joe" in the mirror, lying on mommies bed with her blankie, getting her ears and face tickled before bed and friends. Some things I love about her are: her constant cheesy fake laugh, listening to her talk to "Joe," how she has to say goodnight and I love you to Jake before bed, her love and excitement for life. She is such a joy in our lives and we are so grateful for her.

A Must Read

When Bush left office, I wrote a post thanking him for his work. I still stand by much of what I said. I think Bush did some wonderful things and some less wonderful things as President. I don't know if we've ever had a "perfect" president, but my brain tells me the answer is almost certainly 'no.' Well, I don't like Obama. I'm sure that's no surprise. Ft Hood was a tragedy that our nation suffered similar to many shootings we've had in the past, except this one never should have happened. The feds had probed Hasan in the past, they knew he was dangerous, and yet somehow he managed to attack an Army base and kill almost a dozen people. Obama, being the insensitive mongrel that he is, handled the situation almost as poorly as possible. Read about it here. It's almost as horrific and mind-boggling as the shootings. I struggle to imagine a president much worse.
Contrast this with another president, maligned and despised by the country, who silently and without fanfare heads to Ft Hood and meets with the families and victims for hours, consoling them and helping them. That's right. George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, were in Ft Hood and doing what the President should have been doing. Read the articles that I have linked and contrast the two presidents, one so globally loathed, the other so universally loved. It's wonderful that Obama was able to properly respond at the memorial service after someone was able to write a nice, cover-up speech for him, but his true character was seen in the immediate response.

New Book Idea

I have an idea for a new story that I wanted to run across some friends and family before writing after I finish Hunt. The tentative title is Darkness and it surrounds a love-starved girl who is being stalked by a guy at her school. Yes, it's kind of a scary, horror-type story. She sees him watching her at school, turning up at "just the right time" to help her, but then things get really creepy when she finds out he's been staring at her at night as she sleeps, letting himself in through her window and then leaving before she wakes. While the guy is clearly a psycho, it gets weirder when the girl starts to develop feelings for him, even becoming depressed and delusional when he's not around, contemplating various ways to put her life on the line, and finding solace in her ex-lover's worst enemy. I haven't decided yet how to end the story, but I'm thinking it might involve a baby strong enough to claw its way out of her uterus, ultimately killing her. Sound fun? Well, believe me, it won't be.

For Aunt Rosalee

Jacobs sister gave Lily a book for her birthday and she loves it. She reads it so much that she has almost memorized the whole thing.(Not that there is a whole lot to memorize) Here she is reading it to Aunt Rose.

Photo Shoot

My friend Mary used my new camera (since I don't know how yet) and took pictures of my kids for me. She edited them and everything. I like them soooo much better than all the studio pictures I have of them. It was so fun to be out at the park and play with my cute kids. Thanks Mary. These are just a few of them. Enjoy. This one was taken on a different day while Lily and Mary's son Luke were eating a snack in their strollers and laughing at each other.

I got this one in 8x10. It is my favorite.

I love these kids!
